The illustration's secrets of Charlotte Giordana

Updated: Aug 8, 2021

Hello! I’m Charlotte, and I’m a French graphic design student :)

What type of art do you feel most connected to?

In my opinion, all arts are related, but if I had to choose, I would say: illustration.

How long have you been drawing or illustrating?

I think since I knew how to hold a pencil, but more assiduously for about 5 years!

What inspires you the most to illustrate?

I feel really inspired by what I see. I’m visually sensitive to the images and colors that surround us: architecture, fashion, cinema,

Do you remember your first-ever illustration? What was it?

I’m pretty sure it was a drawing of my family, like the ones we do in pre-school :)

Describe your creative illustration process in several steps

  1. I make a sketch which I modify until I like it.

  2. Then I decide whether or not to draw the outlines in black with the microns

  3. Finally, I do color tests hoping that the colors will not spoil the drawing.

  4. If I mess up, I start again.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

Probably in a creative agency (if it were mine, it would be even more dope), but I really hope in a creative environment.

it’s okay to take the time, to start over, and to try again and again."

What three things would you tell others to be inspired to make art during Covid-19?

I am thinking directly of saying not to put pressure on yourself to create a lot under the pretext that you have nothing else to do. Take the time you need to get inspired, explore new things. The most important to me is: it’s okay to take the time, to start over, and to try again and again."

Which tools do you use to illustrate? Which one do you use the most?

I really like using Posca pens; I use them the most. I also like to paint with gouache or to draw with colored pencils.

How can others find your work or connect with you?
